We all know how great it is when we can borrow something from a friend or family. Often times, these are things that we just don’t use enough to justify making a purchase or we need to try it out for ourselves.
For this reason, I love my local library, and here are some reasons why you should too!
Huge selection of books on just about any topic
So this is obviously a given but the library is an amazing source for books. Whenever there is a book that I hear about, I will always look over the review on Amazon and check to see if my library has a copy. Being able to borrow it allows me to see if it is worth actually purchasing.
Need to learn a new skill? Your library probably has dozens of books that cover all the basics.
Audio Books
For some, it can be difficult to fit time to read into their schedules. For those of you who are always on the go, try using audio books. These are great to listen to while commuting, doing household chores, or during a workout. Who knows, you might enjoy the audiobook so much that you buy the hard copy.
New Release DVD Rentals
Stores like Blockbuster are a thing of the past, but renting DVD’s is still a good source of entertainment. Nowadays, it has become fairly common for libraries to purchase DVD’s of new movie releases. Netflix does not add new content right away so the library is a great option to get the latest releases.
Video Games
If only this service was offered when I was younger! Libraries are now carrying video games for different gaming consoles. This is a great for people who have children that like video games and will save a ton of money instead of buying games.
Free Internet
Free public wifi is pretty common in most urban environments but the places you find them in are often restaurants, or cafes with lots of traffic and commotion. If you need a nice quiet place to study or conduct some business, you can always count on the library.
Workshops
Libraries are always looking for new ways to engage with the community. Check your library’s website to see if they have any upcoming workshops or events.
